David Carr, Brynn Westenburg D-1 State Duet Acting Champions; Johnson-Brock Speech Team Sixth at State Meet

The Johnson-Brock High School speech team placed sixth at the Class D-1 state meet. It took place Friday, March 23 at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

Coach Karen Wolken said four of the Eagles’ six events reached the finals. Seniors David Carr and Brynn Westenburg were duet acting champions. They earned first in each of the preliminary rounds. Carr and Westenburg received first, first and second from the three judges in the finals.

They returned to the stand with their teammates Ty Hahn, Joshua Hoff-Boring and Emily Oestmann accepting the bronze in oral interpretation of drama (OID). Also standing on the podium twice was Hoff-Boring placing fifth in poetry. Elaina Riley added 10 team points with a sixth place in entertainment speaking. The team earned them 58 points after the long day of competition.
