County Commissioners Asked to Boost Veterans Service Office Budget; Move (VSO) to Multiplex

A request to increase the 2021-2022 Veterans Service Office (VSO) budget was presented to the Nemaha County Commissioners Wednesday morning, July 21.

The board was also asked about returning the VSO office to the Multiplex building. It had been moved to the courthouse basement several years ago. Physically challenged individuals have accessibility issues at the current site, noted Al Armstrong of the county Veterans Service Board. Armstrong said veterans would not have to go down and up stairs at the Multiplex. It would also be a more convenient location to park the vans used to transport veterans.

Chair Bryan Mellage replied the commissioners plan to advertise for an office assistant. The relocation request will be taken under consideration, the chair stated. Mellage continued the board wants to do everything it can for the county’s veterans.
