Coronavirus Supplement to APS Student Handbook Approved by School Board

An addendum to the student handbook covering coronavirus (COVID-19) was accepted by the Auburn Public Schools (APS) Board of Education meeting in special session Wednesday night, Aug. 19.

The addendum covers rules and expectations in the following areas: masks, symptoms, potential exposure, academic work at home, activities, failure to be honest, other health and safety rules and assumption of the risks. The symptoms include having a temperature equal to or greater than 100.4˚F in compliance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines. The rules and regulations will be effective throughout the 2020-2021 school year.

Stephen Kennedy, board member, states the guidelines are important in order for school to remain open. He continues too many students need classroom instruction as well as school lunches. Learning at home, particular for elementary students and parents, is not the best option, Kennedy continues.
