Cooper Weeks Has Joined the Nemaha County Herald Staff

Cooper Weeks has joined the Nemaha County Herald staff on a full-time basis. However, our readers should be familiar with Weeks’ work as he has written game recaps for the Auburn Boys Basketball Team.

Publisher Kendall Neiman said of Weeks joining the Herald’s staff on Monday, May 3. “Cooper will primarily focus on the editorial side of the newspaper. However, he will be introduced to most aspects of small town community journalism. He will experience a variety of the tasks that go along with compiling material for a weekly newspaper.”

Weeks graduated from Beatrice High School in 2016 before attending classes at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and eventually Peru State College. In 2017, he joined his dad Jim and brother Jackson on the coaching staff for the Auburn High Boys Basketball Team.

He said, “I have been coaching basketball for five years and plan to continue while also assisting at the Nemaha County Herald and attending classes at Peru State.”

Cooper said about the opportunity which he has received to learn about community journalism, “I’m incredibly excited to join the staff at the Herald and I’m looking forward to learning about small town journalism as well as becoming more involved in the community.”

Having Weeks join the Herald team means availability of another person to help with writing and taking photographs for special sections, news and sports.
