Bids on Track and Gym Repairs Accepted By APS Board of Ed

Monday, Nov. 14, the Auburn Public Schools (APS) Board of Education accepted bids on repairs to the high school track and gymnasium.

The first was $75,645 from Pro Track and Tennis, Inc., of Bennington on protective coating. Most of the cost entails installing a new red structural spray over the existing track. Patch work and striping are also involved.

An option costing $1,200 includes new super alley lines to be painted in white only. Superintendent Kevin Reiman noted the super alley lines are necessary to allow APS to be host of district track and field. He also said the track color will be a dull clay red.

The district also received a $64,622 option to install a black structural spray. Beth Kernes-Krause of the board’s Building, Grounds & Transportation Committee said the red structural spray was recommended. It should not absorb as much heat. It will also be easier to see areas of the track which are starting to deteriorate, she said.

Reiman said the repairs are needed because there are patches on the track which are deteriorating down to the cement. The district runs the risk of damaging the facility’s foundation if the work is not done, he noted. Reiman said the work will not occur until next spring.
