Martin W. Dwine - March 12, 2013


Martin Wayne Dwine was born April 23, 1946, the son of Orville and Katherine Steinkuehler. He passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 66.
Marty was born in Sioux City, Iowa, and was baptized in Christ on May 23, 1946, at the Monica Home in Sioux City. He received his first communion on May 31, 1953, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dow City, Iowa. Marty received his education in the Dow City Community Schools graduating with the class of 1964. Marty was united in marriage to Judy DeMey in July 1967 and to this union was born one daughter, Megan in 1982.
Marty graduated from Midwestern College in Denison, Iowa, in 1969 with a degree in physical education. He coached at Midwestern College until it closed. He coached college football and wrestling during the first half of his career, and a highlight of his coaching career was being honored as Nebraska Coach of the Year in 1975 while at Peru State College. Deciding to further his education, Marty received his Masters in Education in 1994 and Doctorate in Education in 1996 from the University of Nebraska. He retired from the University of Nebraska-Kearney in 2008 where he taught Education Administration. While living in Nebraska, Marty was a member of the Kearney Eagles Club, two dance clubs, enjoyed his Harley Davidson motorcycles, and was a huge Huskers fan. He taught various dance classes ranging from ballroom dancing to country line dancing. In 1993, he and his nephew, Chris Wood, began In Kahoots DJ Service, playing for many weddings and area events. They were later joined by his niece, Tracey Schechinger. After retiring, Marty continued deejaying as a hobby.
On December 5, 2011, Marty was united in marriage to Catherine Wilcke in Las Vegas, Nevada. They made their home in Denison, Iowa. Marty was a wonderful family man and loved to be around people and share a cup of coffee.
Marty was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Kate and Orville; and one brother, Douglas. Survivors include his wife, Catherine; one daughter, Megan and her husband, Dan; two grandchildren, Tate and Denver; two stepdaughters, Lydia and her fiance, Rob; and Bethany; four sisters: Joan; Linda and her husband, Leo; Pat and her husband, Keith; and Sheri and her husband, Lynn; and three brothers: Steve and his wife, Leslie; Jim and his wife, Starla; and Joe and his wife, Karen; one sister-in-law, Sherry; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa.
Rev. David Loeschen officiated the service. Organist Mary Kuhlmann provided acccompaniment for congregational hymns, “Borning Cry,” “I Love To Tell The Story,” and “Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee.”
Pallbearers were Brandon Steinkuehler, Tracey Schechinger, Ryan Steinkuehler, Tara Steinkuehler, Jason Hast, and Chris Wood.
The family invited everyone to remain at the church for fellowship and lunch provided by the Women’s Guild.
The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa, was in charge of arrangements.
