Dwain V. Myers - March 16, 2013Dwain Verne Myers, eldest son of Loren Verne and Marjory Ruth (Clay) Myers, was born February 27, 1939 in Sidney, Nebraska. He attended school in Potter, Nebraska, the West Coast, and Broken Bow, Nebraska before graduating from Broken Bow High School in 1956.
After high school Dwain attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln for a semester. He then transferred to Kearney State, where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Education. While in school in Kearney Dwain joined the Nebraska National Guard. Later in life Dwain would obtain his Master in Education and Specialist in Education at Kearney.
On August 27, 1960 Dwain was united in marriage to Linda Woods in Kearney. They were blessed with three sons: Thomas Verne, Timothy, and Samuel. The family lived in many communities in Nebraska while Dwain advanced his career in education.
Dwain’s first teaching job was at Schickley, and he then went to Broken Bow and on to Gothenburg. Dwain took a four year break from education to dairy farm, and next taught at Wallace. From there he took a principal position in Elm Creek, followed by superintendent position at Sumner and Southeast Consolidated at Stella. After a short term as superintendent at Winnebago, Dwain and Linda opened a business in Auburn in 1987. They operated the business until retiring in 2004.
Dwain was a member of Auburn Christian Church, the Auburn Rotary Club, and the Masonic Lodge in Stella, Humboldt, and Brownville. He had also served on the Mid-American Dairy Cooperative Board of Directors. He was a farmer at heart, and always loved gardening at home, as well as working with his hands at many projects.
As his health failed him, Dwain spent about a month at the Good Samaritan Society- Auburn, returning to his home in Auburn in January 2013. He became a resident of Colonial Acres in Humboldt, where he passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the age of 74 years and 17 days. His parents preceded him in death.
Dwain is survived by his wife Linda of Auburn; sons Thomas of Hazelgreen, WI; Tim and wife Shelly of Bellevue; Sam of Texas; granddaughter Sarah Ann Myers of Omaha; brother David of Lincoln; sister Karen and husband Jim Lehmkulher of Hawaii; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Thursday, March 21, 10:30 a.m. at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn. Visitation in Auburn will be at the funeral home Wednesday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m, with family greeting friends 6:00 to 7:00. Visitation in Broken Bow will be at the First Christian Church, Friday at noon to 2:00 p.m. Committal services and burial will be Friday, 2:30, at the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to family choice.
