Deborah Helms - March 06, 2013
Deborah Ann (Gaede) Helms, daughter of Ernest William “Bill” and Ramona Jeanine (Shaffer) Gaede, was born March 16, 1957 in Omaha, Nebraska. She attended elementary school in Topeka, Kansas and graduated from Dawson-Verdon High School in Nebraska.On September 19, 1975 Deb was married to Ross Helms in the Verdon Christian Churh in Verdon, Neb. They were blessed with a son, Matthew. The couple divorced in 1996, but remained lifelong friends.
Deb worked in the early ‘70’s at ESU #4 in Auburn and from there joined the purchasing department at Auburn Consolidated Industries. She next worked in the office of King Louie Manufacturing in Auburn. After working at Wolfe Farms near Auburn, she retired because of her health.
Deborah loved horses and belonged to the Dawson-Verdon Saddle Club, where she was selected as queen. She enjoyed the outdoors, particularly fishing and watersports, and played guitar in a band with her husband Ross.
Suffering the effects of cancer, Deb entered the Good Samaritan Society-Auburn in January of 2013. She passed away there on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at the age of 55 years, 11 months, and 18 days. Her parents and nephew Adam Gaede preceded her in death.
Deborah is survived by her lifetime friend Ross Helms of Auburn; son and daughter-in-law Matt and Sara Helms of Auburn; grandchildren Bristan Blecha and Alayna Helms; step-mother Barbara Gaede of Hiawatha, Kansas; brothers and sister-in-law Ernest Gaede, Jr. of Falls City; Terry and Lisa Gaede of Johnson; sister and brother-in-law Lyn and Brian Henry of Shawnee, Kan.; other relatives and many friends.
Graveside memorials services were Monday, March 11, 2013 at Sheridan West Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Nita Hinds-Park. Ross Helms was urnbearer. Inurnment of ashes followed the services.
Services were entrusted to Hemmingsen Funeral Home of Auburn.
