M. Allan Casey - January 27, 2013
Allan grew up in the Johnson community and graduated from Johnson High School. Allen entered the University of Nebraska in the fall of 1942 where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He played in both the symphonic and marching bands. Allan sang baritone in the last quartette which the university had.
He received his draft notice on his 18th birthday. In the Army, Allan served in the 3rd Battalion, 303rd Regiment of the 97th Infantry serving in Europe as a part of Patton’s 3rd Army and in Asia occupying Japan. He was honorably discharged having achieved the rank of Second Lieutenant. After returning from WWII, Allan finished his education earning his degree in Mortuary Science.
Allan owned and operated the Casey Funeral Homes serving Auburn, and all of the surrounding communities. Allan was united in marriage to Meredith Bowhay on September 2, 1947. To this marriage two children were born.
Casey was always active in community affairs. He was a past master of the Masonic Lodge and was a member of both Shrine and Scottish Rite. As president of Auburn Jaycees he won the Howard award. He served on the Foundation Board of Peru State College.
Allan was past president of Kiwanis, Auburn Country Club, Nemaha County Red Cross, Swimming Pool Board and Auburn Memorial Library Board.
Casey was a lifetime member of the Auburn American Legion Post #23, and served on the Avenue of Flags Committee. He was co-chairman of the Auburn Industrial Development Committee to help raise money to purchase the industrial park north of Auburn.
Allan was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Auburn for over 50 years. He was a certified Lay Speaker in the Methodist Church; served as lay reader for 19 years, taught the Senior High School Sunday School class for 11 years, and was on the church board much of his life.
After Meredith passed away in 2000, Allan remained in Auburn until moving to Lincoln. He was united in marriage to Margie (Neddenriep) Eloe. Margie passed away in 2012.
Allan passed away Sunday, January 27, 2013 at Tabitha Hospice in Lincoln at age 87.
Allan was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, son Shawn, brother Lee Casey, niece Kristen Rogge, nephew Larry Rogge.
He is survived by his son Kevin Casey and wife Hana of Auburn; two grandchildren, Madison Ryan Casey and Erin Casey; one sister Patricia Rogge of Johnson, Neb.; one sister-in-law Helen Casey of Johnson; and by nieces, nephews, cousins and a great many friends.
A funeral service for M. Allan Casey was held Thursday, January 31, at the Hall Funeral Chapel in Auburn, officiated by Pastor Nita Hinds Park.
Pallbearers were Madison Casey, Joe Casey and Dan Casey. Honorary pallbearers were Jay Hauserman, Dick Hahn Jr., Dave Pippert, Mike Casey, Bert Fuller, C. Glenn Witzenburg and Ed Hartwig.
Nancy Ramsey was organist and Debbie Meyer, soloist.
Burial followed at the Johnson Cemetery with military graveside honors provided by the Auburn American Legion Post #23 and the National Guard Honor Guard.
Hall Funeral Chapel of Auburn, NE was in charge of arrangements for M. Allan Casey.
