Joni Scheer - April 08, 2012
1936-2012Joan Fern (Moseman) Scheer, one of seven children of Herman and Fern (Briggs) Moseman, was born October 28, 1936 in Hooper, Nebraska. She was baptized December 20, 1936 and confirmed February 19, 1950 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Winslow, Nebraska by Rev. J.H. Gerdes. Joni attended school in Hooper and graduated from high school there, after which she received her teaching certificate from Concordia College in Seward, Nebraska.
On June 1, 1958, Joni was united in marriage to Marlin Scheer at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hooper. The couple made their home in Arlington, Nebraska, and would be blessed with two children, Judith and Kendall.
Joni taught for 1 1/2 years at Immanuel Lutheran School in Hooper before her marriage to Marlin, and after their wedding taught for a time at Lone Tree School in Arlington. She worked for many years as the church secretary at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Arlington. In 1998 Joni and Marlin moved to Auburn, Nebraska, and she served as church secretary at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska. Joni’s current position was as part-time secretary at the Farm Bureau Insurance office in Auburn.
From Immanuel Lutheran to St. Paul Lutheran, and most recently as a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn, Joni was always very active in her church. At Trinity she was a member of LWML, the Evangelism Committee, and the Board of Education. She had belonged to the Home Harmony Club while in Arlington. Joni liked to bowl and golf when she was able, and loved to follow Husker and K.C. Royals baseball.
After a diagnosis of cancer in December of 2011, Joni battled the disease at her home in Auburn with the help of her family. On April 5 she was admitted to the Nemaha County Hospital in Auburn and the next day transferred to the Good Samaritan Society-Auburn. It was there she passed away, surrounded by family, on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012. She had attained the age of 75 years, five months, and 11 days. In addition to her parents Joni was preceded in death by her sister Mary Snover, brothers Kenneth and Marlin, parents-in-law Oscar and Esther Scheer; and brothers-in-law Dale Snover and Verdell Scheer.
Joni is survived by her husband Marlin of Auburn; daughter and son-in-law Judith and Jerry Ruskamp of Auburn; son and daughter-in-law Kendall and Renay Scheer of Omaha; grandchildren Christine and Laura Ruskamp, Riley Anderson, and Robison Scheer; brothers and sisters-in-law Clarence and Lorraine Moseman of Fremont; Calvin and Marian Moseman of Oakland; Duane and LaRae Moseman of Hooper; sisters-in-law Marlene Moseman of Hooper; Joan Moseman of Wausa; Phyllis and husband Jim Peterson of Fremont; Linda Scheer of Fremont; brother-in-law Wayne Scheer of Fremont; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 12, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn. Burial will follow in Trinity (Stutheit) Cemetery near Johnson. Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends 6:00 to 8:00.
Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Foundation - Auburn.
