Fifth Annual Nemaha County Gives Back Festival Will Be Held First Weekend in December at 4-H Bldg. in Auburn

It’s mid-October, but it’s not too early to start thinking about the fifth annual Nemaha County Gives Back Winter Festival. The festival is Saturday-Sunday, Dec. 3-4, from 5-8 p.m. both nights at the 4-H Building in Auburn.
Sponsors are being sought. Anyone who would like to help sponsor the event, please contact: Nemaha County Gives Back, c/o Bobette Guenther, 1719 Courthouse Ave., Suite 204, Auburn, NE 68305. Checks may be made payable to Nemaha County Gives Back.
Volunteers will be needed to help with the event and after the event, Guenther said. Both individual and group volunteers are being sought.
The festival includes a freewill soup supper, entertainment by area performers, a Christmas tree and wreath auction and a military tribute. See accompanying article on seeking photos for the military tribute.
Proceeds from the festival will be used to purchase food baskets, toys and clothing for Nemaha County residents in need.
The 2010 festival raised $18,430. The funds were gifted to Southeast Nebraska Community Action, Southeast Nebraska Developmental Services (SENDS), and elderly and disabled Nemaha County residents.
Utilizing the funds, officials were able to provide:
–133 food baskets of non-perishable food, along with a $25 gift certificate and a warm blanket;
–196 children in Nemaha County were given toys/gifts, warm coats, pajamas, jeans and shirts;
–60 SENDS clients were given $40 gift certificates to purchase clothing;
–$25 gift certificates along with a warm blanket were given to designated elderly and disabled persons and
–eight of the 10 Christmas trees and two of the Christmas wreaths that were auctioned off were contributed back to needy families with children.
