Bread, Rolls and Other Baked Items Are Available at Auburn’s 19th Street Bakery

After nine months of preparation, Amber and Bryan Kinnaman opened 19th Street Bakery Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 1405 19th St. along Auburn’s Courthouse Square.
“I think things are going well. I’m having a good time. It’s fun to see my customers. I’ve been working for nine months on this. It’s nice to know that people really do want bread,” Amber Kinnaman said at the end of her first week of operation.
Plans originally were to name the bakery Fresh Baked, but when the name was submitted to state officials, the name was taken. There is an establishment named Fresh Baked Buns in Nebraska.
The Kinnamans have lived in Auburn three years. They have two children: Erin, age 13 years, an eighth grader and John, age 11, a sixth grader. A Colorado native, Amber Kinnaman said that she has lived in Nebraska 11 years, but not all consecutively. She attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Bryan Kinnaman, a native of Sutherland, Neb., west of North Platte, served in the military before the family returned to Nebraska.
“When I was in college, I worked at bakeries, but I never had owned a business before,” she said.
In Lincoln, Amber Kinnaman said that she worked at the Garden Cafe’ and Hillis Bakery, now a florist and catering business.
“My favorite items to bake are dinner rolls and loaves of bread. (Bryan) likes to make cheesecakes,” she said.
Bryan Kinnaman, who works for Nebraska Public Power District at Cooper Nuclear Station’s Sheridan Training Center, also helps with the bakery.
Amber Kinnaman said that the sticky bun is the most popular item.
Chairs will be available at the bakery this week. Special orders are possible, including sugar cookies, birthday cakes, cupcakes and cheesecakes.
Hours at 19th Street Bakery are: Tuesdays-Fridays, 5:45-11 a.m.; Thursdays, 4-7 p.m. featuring dinner breads and Saturdays, 8 a.m.-noon. The bakery may be contacted at 402-432-7697 or
