Missouri River Slowly Receding

A closer look at the levee near 645 Avenue and 737A Road shows a line in the grass and discoloration on the back of the sign (right) as to the height which the Missouri River rose to prior to beginning its decline.

The level as of Aug. 10 at the Brownville gauge was 37.91 feet and it was expected to drop to about 37.6 feet as of Sunday, Aug. 14. Flood stage is 33 feet and Corps of Engineers officials project the river to return to within its banks by late September or early October. This time frame is dependent upon being able to stay within the release schedule and rainfall upstream in the Missouri River basin.
