Lula Christine Louise (Borchers) Ritter, 99 years of age, of Lincoln, formerly of Talmage, passed away Monday, June 22, 2015 at Tabitha Nursing Home in Lincoln. She was born on January 1, 1916 at Rush Center, Kansas to Edward and Freda (Seba) Borchers. Lula was one of four children. She was baptized on February 2, 1916 by Pastor J. Krumstroh. At the age of 4, the family moved to Syracuse where they were members of Christ Lutheran Church Delaware. Five generations of Borchers have been members since its beginning in 1893. In 1927, the family moved southwest of Nebraska City. Lula was confirmed on March 29, 1931 by Pastor Walter Fleischmann at St. Paul Lutheran Church. After graduating from High School, Lula worked at the Bank of Talmage for about 32 years. She was active in the Chamber of Commerce, Women’s Club, treasurer for Village of Talmage, treasurer and teacher of Sunday School, sang in the choir, served on altar committee and a member of Paula Ruth Circle of Trinity Lutheran, now Faith Lutheran Church. Lula married Leonard Ritter on June 18, 1967 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Talmage. Leonard passed away on March 1, 1985. They lived on the Ritter family farm until moving into Talmage in 1974. Lula remained in Talmage until 2000 when she moved to Lincoln. After moving to Lincoln, she became an associate member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. She was an active member of Martha Circle and Yesterday Youth Club. She remained a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Talmage. Lula was also a volunteer at the Ambassador Care Center assisting residents play bingo. She loved to quilt and do needle point, and making gifts for friends and relatives. Lula is survived by a step son-inlaw, Marvin Teten of Talmage; step grandson, Douglas Teten and wife Karen of Talmage; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; greatgreat- nieces and nephews; cousins; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard; step daughter, Virginia Teten; two sisters, Lillie Harms and husband Elmer, Mabel Gadeken and husband Fred; brother, Edward Borchers and wife Laurene; step father, John Moore; three nephews, Herman and Delbert Gadeken, Dale Harms; great nephew, Bruce Pearson; and niece, Sheri Harms. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, June 26, 2015 at Faith Lutheran Church in Talmage with Pastor Glatha Rathjen officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Paul’s Cemetery near Talmage. Visitation will be held one hour preceding services on Friday at the church.
