On Dec. 12, local veterinarian Mike Speece presented a check for $5,000 to the FFA program at Auburn High School. “Doc” Speece personally made the donation in a show of support on how important he believes it is for agriculture to be a part of the school curriculum. The Nebraska FFA Foundation will currently match a percentage of donations which chapters receive from community members. Ashton Bohling, who was hired this school year to implement an agriculture program in the Auburn Public Schools, said there are now over 150 FFA chapters in the state. Bohling stressed the importance of introducing all AHS students to agriculture because of the many careers possible in that field.
