A 2.2 percent electrical rate increase in 2015 was approved Thursday night, Dec. 11, by the Auburn Board of Public Works (BPW). Dave Hunter, BPW general manager, recalled the board did not increase rates for 2014. While no one likes rate increases, he indicated because costs are continuing to rise, the utility needs to cover them. As an example, wholesale power costs this year increased 4.4 percent.
