Longtime Southeast Nebraska Journalist Joins Nemaha County Herald Staff

A 30-year veteran of journalism with Southeast Nebraska newspapers, David Swanson joined the Nemaha County Herald staff Friday, April 9.

Swanson comes to Auburn after 30 years with Maverick Media, Inc., in Syracuse, covering several Southeast Nebraska counties.
An Omaha native, Swanson is a December 1979 graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha with a bachelor of science degree in journalism. In Syracuse, he served as reporter and photographer, sports writer and editor of the Syracuse Journal-Democrat. Swanson covered a variety of activities, including city government, school board, school activities and community celebrations.
In his first days at the Herald, Swanson has done a few articles and photographs while getting to meet those in the Auburn community.

“I’m looking forward to meeting more people in Auburn and other Nemaha County communities in the coming days. I appreciate the cooperation of everyone that I’ve met so far. I want to do the best job I can in covering happenings of Auburn and the surrounding area,” he said.
During his time in Southeast Nebraska, Swanson has spent time in various Nemaha County communities. He has attended events at Peru State College and in Brownville.
While in Syracuse, Swanson was active in community activities. He has received recognition from the Nebraska Press Association, Nebraska Press Women (open to both men and women), and from school and civic organizations.
Swanson plans to move to Auburn soon.
“I’m looking forward to serving Nemaha County Herald readers and becoming a part of the community,” he said.
