Auburn’s Sterling Norvell will be absent from the golf course for several hours this summer to tend to his new daytime job.

Norvell has been asked to serve as an escort for Nemaha County Hospital employees during the time of the facility’s remodeling period, which is expected to last about two years.
On Friday, April 2, Norvell began driving a hospital-owned mini-van to shuttle the employees from the hospital to a parking lot down the hill next to Sack Lumber.
Norvell said he drives the van about three hours in the morning and three hours in the afternoon. He said he was asked to serve as the escort because his daughter, Nancy Swanson, is employed at the hospital and thought it would be a good fit for her father.
Enjoying New Part-Time Gig
The retiree said he was enjoying the new part-time gig because it gave his something to do. In between his hours driving the van, Sterling said, he will most likely be swinging the clubs on the golf course.
On Friday, hospital employee Arlene Bohling took a shuttle ride after finishing her workday. And, the ever-so-social Norvell didn’t pass up a chance for small talk.
As Bohling got into the van, Norvell asked her, “Did you have a good day, honey?” “Did you make money for the company?” Bohling chucked and said, “Yes.”
As Bohling exited to get into her car, Norvell jokingly added he was considering putting a tip bucket in the van.
Norvell said he didn’t anticipate that he would get bored waiting patiently for employees get to work and to get off from work. He said he is excited about the opportunity to get to meet and talk to so many people, especially one group of employees.
“I also get to meet all of these pretty women” Norvell said with a smile.
