Bulldogs Defeated Conestoga at Home; Will Visit Falls City Feb. 1

Tuesday, Jan. 22, the Auburn Bulldogs defeated Conestoga, 46-28. Auburn raised its season record to 3-14 while Conestoga dropped to 1-15.
Coach Bryce Roth’s Comments
“We were really pleased with our effort vs. Conestoga and it was a much needed win. We thought the guys came out focused and we played very determined. Offensively we seemed a bit tight early on against their zone, but we settled in late in the half and had some really good looks. Defensively we didn’t give them anything and that is the attitude we want our players to continue to develop.  We came in at half up 21-4 giving up just two points each quarter.
“Coming out of half we had a pretty big mental lapse and gave up some easy baskets. We just flat out did not play very intelligently for about the first four minutes of the 3rd. I thought we did do a good job of responding though after they went on a run and cut our lead to 10. T.J. Wynn and Patrick Frary hit a couple of key 3s that ended their run and defensively we started getting stops again.
“Caleb Nelson and Donavan Halfhill continue to give us some steady scoring, each chipping in 11. Hopefully this game gives us some more confidence as we get ready for postseason play. We’ll have 7 practice before our next game vs. Falls City to fix some things and get better.
Other scoring: Frary, 8 points; Wynn, 7 points; Easton Dauel, 5 points and Kamron Fender, 4 points.
Rebounds: Nelson, 7; Fender and John Lambert, 3 each; and Frary and Halfhill, 2 each.
Assists: Dauel, 3; Lambert and Nelson, 2 each; and Fender, Frary, Halfhill and Wynn, 1 each.
Steals: Frary, Halfhill and Nelson, 4 each; Wynn 3; Fender 2 and Dauel 1.
Block: Nelson 1.
Auburn shot 11-of-23 from two-point range; 5-of-15 from three-point range; and 9-of-19 from the free throw line. Conestoga shot 9-of-28 from two-point range; 2-of-8 from three-point range; and 4-of-9 from the free throw line.
Auburn was outrebounded, 17 to 31. Auburn had eight turnovers to 23 for Conestoga.
Scoring by Quarters:
Conestoga    2-2-15-9--28
Auburn         7-14-11-14--46
