367 Deer Were Checked in at Auburn for 2012 Rifle Season
Hogie’s Gun and Sport in Auburn sponsored its annual Firearm Deer Contest in conjunction with the recently concluded season.
Jess Steward shot the first buck and Chase Motto was credited with tagging the first doe.
The top five bucks checked in at the local business according to measurements in antler inches: first place—Cory Goings, Eagle, 144 1/4”; second—Jim Blex, Nemaha, 127 3/8”; third—DJ Wickham, Salem, 125 1/2; fourth—Tom Stukenholtz, Auburn, 121 1/8”; fifth—Tim Clarke, Auburn, 121”.

Gage Fischer had the biggest buck among youth entrants with a deer whose antlers measured 85 inches.
Owner Glen Hogue said there was a lower count of deer taken this year due to EHD Disease and the warm weather this fall which impacted deer numbers in southeast Nebraska and much of the state.
The 2012 Firearm Deer Season saw 367 deer checked in at Auburn (228 bucks and 139 does). The totals in 2011 were 334 bucks and 303 does.
