The Auburn Christian Church congregation will return to its sanctuary for Sunday, Dec. 2, worship services after a two-month renovation.
All renovation was in the church’s interior. There was no exterior renovation.

During the renovation, which started Tuesday, Sept. 18, services were at the auditorium of the Auburn Public Schools Administrative Offices. Youth activities were in the basement of the Midway Building.
The Rev. Corey Miller of the church said the organ, baptistry and back wall, which was a false wall, were removed. The stage was extended. New carpeting was installed in the sanctuary and stairways, a new sound system and new lighting were installed, there is new padding on the pews and painting were done, Miller said.
All of the woodwork was touched up. The front end of the building was redesigned and the entry was remodeled, he said.
Wooden seats were removed from the balcony. A knee high rail in the balcony was removed and replaced with a glass safety rail. Miller said toddlers looked over the edge of the balcony which prompted replacing the old rail with a safety rail.
A restroom in compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act was installed on the main level. The wooden divider to the hospitality room adjoining the sanctuary was removed and glass doors were installed. Remodeling of restrooms started before the project, Miller said.
Ayars and Ayars was the general contractor. Kristi Joy was architect. Needles I of Auburn did the upholstery work. Mark DeBuhr did some carpentry work. Darnell Glass installed the safety rail. Wrightsman Plumbing and Plymouth Electric were other contractors.

The church will have new presentation software and new video projection. That will allow web streaming of worship services, weddings and funerals, Miller said.
“We’re looking forward to web streaming services, either live or they will be available for people to watch at their convenience, such as U-Tube,” he said.
By a video link through web streaming, Auburn Christian Church worship services will be available to residents of Good Samaritan Society-Auburn, Longs Creek Village Assisted Living and Valley View Apartments as well as Nemaha County Hospital patients, Miller said.
“It will allow those who are ill or shut in to join us,” he said.
Internet work is still underway.  Action Technology staff is helping with installation of high speed Internet, Miller said.
“We owe John and Jannalee Beal of the Midway Building a great deal for letting us use the basement as our youth center,” he said.
The congregation also appreciated Auburn Public Schools officials for allowing the use of the central office auditorium, Miller said.
Information from the church history indicated the church’s congregation met in school buildings early in its history.
Most funding for the renovation came from an estate gift which was designated for renovation purposes many years ago, he said.
Church trustees Lavell Clark, Denny Blunt and Terry Cade coordinated the project.
Miller said the last significant renovation of the building’s interior was 50 years ago.
2012 is the 100th anniversary of the Auburn Christian Church building.  Information from the church’s history indicated the cornerstone was laid July 4, 1912. The building was dedicated Nov. 3, 1912. Cost of the building, including fixtures, was $23,000.
