The Dutch Pantry is a new business at 2402 J Street in Auburn. The store sells food which it buys at wholesale prices and then the product is repackaged into smaller portions.

Co-owner Nevin Miller describes their prices considerably less than those which shoppers will find at other stores. The Dutch Pantry officially opened on Jan. 10.
Miller and his wife Lois live near Auburn, after having moved here recently from La Monte, Missouri, which is located near Sedalia. Miller formerly ran a successful car dealership and automobile repair business. They chose to move here as several of their friends, who are also Mennonites, had previously moved to Nemaha County.

Miller said the business offers bulk foods such as spices, flour, sugar, cereals, a wide selection of old fashioned candy and coffee. The Dutch Pantry will also carry milk and eggs as a convenience for their customers.The Millers have friends who will be bringing in bakery items for sale such as pies, breads, cinnamon rolls, cookies and possibly accept other requests. He said bakery days are tentatively planned for Fridays and Saturdays.
Future plans call for possibly adding a soup and sandwich deli in a month or two.

Miller said that the bulk food for sale will be of high quality. “We intend to remain with quality suppliers so we can provide qualify foods for our customers,” he commented.
Current plans are to be open on Tuesdays through Saturdays, and closed on Sundays and likely Mondays. The business’ phone number is 402-274-1102.
Miller said there is a room on the east side of the store which will provide a coffee shop atmosphere for those interested in coming in and sitting down to drink a cup of coffee.
When asked about what brought he and his wife to Auburn, Nevin said, “Some of our Mennonite friends had moved here and liked it. We also chose to move to Auburn because it is a nice sized community and the people here are friendly,” he commented.
Miller anticipates holding a grand opening in about a month.
