Nemaha County Commissioners on Wednesday, Nov. 23, accepted an $89.50 per ton bid from Champlin of Concordia, Kan. for collection of 100 ton scrap tire cleanup.
The other bid received was $125 per ton from EnTire Recycling, Brock.
The scrap tire collection will be Friday, Dec. 9, from 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 10, from 8 a.m.-noon. The collection is at the District 2 County Road Department, 1619 27th St., Auburn.
Rimless tires only will be accepted. The collection is for Nemaha County residents only. Businesses or tire retailers who collect a fee for scrap tires are not eligible to bring in tires for disposal.

There were similar collections held from 2006-09. There were 85.14 tons collected at the last collection, in the fall of 2009.
NADAA Quarterly Report
Laura Osborne, Nemaha Against Drug and Alcohol Abuse (NADAA) Coalition director, gave the quarterly report.
There were 171,895 people reached through activities in August, 190,917 people reached through activities in September and 271,484 people reached through activities in October, according to statistics provided by Osborne. She said more people are reached during the fall because of students returning to school and more opportunities to reach out to the public. The numbers were higher during October because of Red Ribbon Week. There was a record 1,344 visitors to the website in September.
Osborne said that the coalition’s annual holiday season media campaign has begun. Print advertising communicating prevention messages weekly through December will be carried in the Nemaha County Herald, Brock Bugle and Johnson Rag. Information is also posted on www.nadaaonline.org.
Coalition members will be working soon on the application for another five years of Drug Free Communities grant funding. Osborne thanked the commissioners for their support of the coalition and looks forward to continued successful partnership.
Fuel Bids Accepted, Other Action Items
The December fuel bids were awarded to Lueders Petroleum of Johnson. Lueders bid $3.814 for No. 1 Diesel; $3.524 for No. 2 Diesel and $2.984 for unleaded. Farmers Coop of Auburn bid $3.82 for No. 1 Diesel; $3.57 for No. 2 Diesel and $3.02 for unleaded.
Three Omaha Public Power District applications were approved. One was for a proposed single phase underground crossing of County Road 728, one mile south and 2.5 miles west of Auburn for Eric Bohling, who is building a new residence. The second was a proposed set pole in right of way, one mile west and three-quarters of a mile north of Johnson, for Dale Ottemann. The third was for a proposed single phase underground crossing one-half mile west of Peru on 735 Road for R. Nincehelser.
Five resolutions were adopted. One was an agreement with Peru city officials for cooperative use of equipment and personnel under the Interlocal Cooperation Act. Three others involved agreements with the villages of Brownville, Johnson and Nemaha for cooperative use of equipment and personnel. The fifth was an agreement for preliminary engineering and NEPA services agreement with Mainelli Wagner & Associates on the bridge northwest of Brock.
An application was approved for a road entrance requested by Paul Chatelain in Washington Precinct southeast of Johnson. Chatelain will purchase the necessary culvert.
The subdivision of a 3.03 tract of land east of Auburn for CAMS Farms, Inc. property sold to the City of Auburn and recorded in the Nemaha County Register of Deeds.
The Nemaha County Herald was designated as the county’s official newspaper for 2012.

The commissioners’ next meeting will be Tuesday, Dec. 13 — one day earlier than normal — as the commissioners will attend the Nebraska Association of County Officials convention at Kearney.
