Effective Jan. 12, Whiskey Run Creek Vineyard & Winery, LLC is operating under new but familiar faces. Ron and Sherry Heskett of rural Nemaha have purchased the membership interest in the business.
Ron Heskett said recently that work has been ongoing for almost a year to bring about the change in ownership.
Radon testing of homes is encouraged in January. University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) extension educators provided information and free home radon test kits Friday, Jan. 20. Information was presented to residents of Nemaha and other Southeast Nebraska counties.

Renovation of the former Wheeler Inn along South Highway 75 in Auburn into El Portal Mexican Restaurant started in early December.
The Auburn location will be the fourth Mexican restaurant of the family-owned enterprise, said Rosa Giffee, who will manage the Auburn location.
The Dutch Pantry is a new business at 2402 J Street in Auburn. The store sells food which it buys at wholesale prices and then the product is repackaged into smaller portions.
Commissioners Deny Application for Under Crossing of County Road and Occupying County Road Right of Way
The Nemaha County Commissioners Wednesday, Jan. 25, denied an application from Brandon Snodgrass. Snodgrass had applied for under crossing of a county road or occupying a county road right of way.
The denial was made because the property owner trenched across the road without permission. The work was done before the application was made.
Peru Owner-Occupied Housing Rehabilitation Pre-Applications Sought
Early response from interested homeowners is being sought for a potential Owner-Occupied Housing Rehabilitation program in the City of Peru.
As a first step, before a program is a reality for the City of Peru, the Peru City Council is mailing pre-applications out to gauge community interest.

Early March Completion Date Expected for Hospital’s Second Phase of Construction
Nearly two years after ground was broken for remodeling at Nemaha County Hospital, anticipated completion date of the two-phase project is the first week of March, said Marty Fattig, chief executive officer.

Proposed Sewer Rate Increase Tabled by Board of Public Works; Substation Breaker Will Be Replaced
The Auburn Board of Public Works (BPW) will continue discussion of a sewer rate increase and continued discussion of water rates Monday, Jan. 9.
