RubyLee Remmers
1927-2013
RubyLee (Rears) Remmers, daughter of Amel F. and Ruby L. (Caskey) Rears, was born November 22,1927 on a farm near Stella, Nebraska. She was one of five children.
RubyLee was baptized and confirmed March 7, 1954 at St. John Lutheran (Stone) Church by Rev. C.H. Goede. RubyLee attended North Star Rural School in Richardson County, and graduated from Bratton Union High School. She then received her teaching certificate from Peru State Teachers’ College and taught in District #41 and #42 rural schools in Nemaha County.
On July 16, 1953 RubyLee was united in marriage to Henry Lee Remmers at St. John Lutheran (Stone) Church. To this marriage on son, Gene Lee, was born. The couple made their home southwest of Auburn, Nebraska until March of 1988 when they moved to Auburn.
RubyLee was a member of St. John Lutheran (Stone) Church, and was active in WELCA. She and Lee were Stone Church Centennial Chairpersons and receptionists, and also served as research and history chairpersons for the 125th Anniversary of the church. She also belonged to the Golden Rule Friendship Club and Auburn Women’s Club.
RubyLee shared her love of crocheting and crafts with family, neighbors, and friends. While at Grandpa and Grandma’s, King on the Corner, 7-Up, or craft projects were Grandma’s idea of entertainment for Teri and Chandra.
When she was no longer able to live in her home, RubyLee became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society-Auburn on November 9, 2011, and made the most of her time there. It was at Good Sam she passed away on February 7, 2013 at the age of 85 years, 2 months, and 16 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lee, and sister AnnaMay Kuhlmann.
Those left to remember her life are her son and daughter-in-law Gene and Susan Remmers of Auburn; granddaughters Teri Epler and husband Steven of Auburn and Chandra Remmers of Lincoln; great-grandchildren Connor Daniel and Brooklyn Lee Epler; sisters Jeane Kuhlmann of Humboldt; MaryLou Haynes and husband Henry of Auburn; brother Donald Rears and wife Rose Marie of Stella; sister-in-law Maxine Remmers of Auburn; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Monday, February 11, 2013 at St. John Lutheran (Stone) Church near Auburn, officiated by Rev. Catherine Burroughs. Joan Bohling was organist for congregational songs.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Services were entrusted to Hemmingsen Funeral Home of Auburn.
