Elvera Esther (Volker) Bohling - February 09, 2013

Elvera Esther (Volker) Bohling was born December 17, 1923, to Edwin and Luella (Grable) Volker. Elvera was baptized by Rev. Geyer at home on January 6, 1924, and confirmed on March 6, 1938, at St. James Lutheran Church by Rev. Brokering.
She received her education at Nemaha County District 46, close to the family farm. Elvera helped on the family farm until she was married to Emil F. Bohling on April 7, 1942. When Emil returned from military service in 1945, they moved to a farm southwest of Johnson where they lived for several years. Later they lived on a farm in the Elk Creek area until 1981, when they moved to Elk Creek. Their union was blessed with seven children: Carolyn, Larry, Dennis, Lorna, Ardith, LuAnn, and Mark.
Elvera was a devoted wife and mother. She helped Emil with all the daily functions of the farm and enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening, raising chickens, sewing, quilting, and embroidering. Elvera was active in the church and has served on the Altar Guild as well as helping with Bible School in her later years. As a member of the Martin Luther Church Women, she enjoyed sewing in her home and at church, making hundreds of quilts for Lutheran World Relief. She always treasured time spent with her family and friends and especially with her grandchildren.
Emil passed away on February 21, 2006. Elvera moved to Ridgeview Assisted Living in Tecumseh in 2008. As her health declined, she moved to Belle Terrace Care Home in June, 2012. On February 9, 2013, at the age of 89 years, Elvera went home to be with her Lord.
