Vern G. Bohlken - November 08, 2012

1923 - 2012
Vern George Bohlken son of Harm Bohlken and Gesha (George) Bohlken was born November 10, 1923 on the family farm near Brock, NE. He was one of three children born to this union.
Vern was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in 1937.Vern graduated from Brock High School in 1941. In 1945 he was drafted into the United States Army where he worked as a mechanic. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He returned back home to help on the farm. Vern was united in marriage to Lois Marshall of Cook at Pastor Hubbells home in Lincoln, NE in 1951. Vern and Lois were blessed with three children.
Through the years he served on the Church Council at Faith Lutheran Church where he was a life time member. He also served on the farmers CO-OP board. And served on the Grant Evergreen Cemetery Association for over 40 years.
Vern was past president of the Byron Holtgrewe American Legion Post #246 of Talmage, he was member for 55 years. Vern and Lois enjoyed a lifetime friendship with special friends and neighbors Donald and Viola Grotrian. He enjoyed going to Husker games with his close friends Arnold and Nelda Bischoff of Talmage. Vern also loved to attend the many football, basketball and other sporting events of his grandchildren.
Due to ongoing illness Vern entered the Good Samaritan Society in Auburn, NE and it is there that on Thursday, November 8, 2012 he passed away. He had reached the age of 88 years, 11, months, 29 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother William Bohlken, and two great grandsons, Kadan DeBuse, and Nicholas Rathbone.
He is survived by his wife Lois, children Virginia Baack and husband Jim of Auburn, NE; Joan Knippelmeyer and husband Lavon of Johnson, NE; Randy Bohlken and wife Cindy of Geneva, NE; grandchildren Jason (Stacy) Knippelmeyer, and their children Dalton and Laney, Travis (Janelle) Knippelmeyer, and their children, Natalie and Kasie; Holly (Eric) Hawley, and their children, Zachary, Tate, and Cooper; Amy (Todd) DeBuse, and thier children, Erika, Kyra, Easton, and Kendall; Renae (Andy) Ernesti, their children Cassie and Blake Rathbone, Cevahn and Carter Ernesti, Kurt (Leslie) Ottemann and their child Ava; Cody Baack, Brian (Christina) Baack and their children Mikaela and Arianna; Jeff (Lexie) Baack; Taryn Bohlken and Riley Bohlken, one sister Edna Grundman of Lincoln, NE; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
