The regular meeting of the Johnson-Brock Board of Education, District #N-23, was convened by President Duane Caspers in the Superintendent’s Office at 8:00 p.m.   Advance notice of the meeting was legally posted.  Roll call:  David Bohling, here; Keith Bohling, here; Caspers, here; Grotrian, here; Neddenriep, here; Oestmann, here.   President Caspers noted that the Open Meetings Law is posted on the south wall beside the doorway.

The Principal’s report included information regarding the Terra Nova testing administered in September.  Presentation of the annual Multicultural Education Report was made.  Mrs. Kelsay was asked about students who are absent during the Terra Nova testing, and she replied that any student missing school during the test took the test when they returned under the supervision of Mrs. Richardson, counselor.  Mrs. Kelsay explained that every Johnson-Brock student takes the entire test each year.
In the Superintendent’s Report, Mr. Koehler described the Department of Transportation visit and audit of records conducted October 4 and that all records were found to be in order.  Mr. Koehler reported on the School Law Update workshop he attended in Kearney on September 28 and noted that the NASB Convention will be held in LaVista November 16-18.  Application for E-rate 479 funds for costs of communications was filed and approved.  The annual financial audit scheduled to be conducted October 6 was rescheduled for October 18 due to staffing issues in the office of the auditors.  Mr. Koehler noted that November 1 is the due date for return of the participation form for the EHA Premium Holiday for health insurance.  He noted that Karen Wolken received a Recipient of Excellence Award by the Nebraska Department of Education, making her a finalist for the Teacher of the Year Award.  An e-mail was shared regarding fourth grade student Elizabeth Hodges being a national winner in the American Legion Auxiliary Americanism Essay contest.  Mr. Koehler reported that Nebraska Commissioner of Education, Dr. Roger Breed, will visit Johnson-Brock the morning of October 11.  He also reported he had made application and received grant funds for a poverty plan associated with the industrial technology program and that the additional funds would be added to the district’s State Aid.
Moved by David Bohling to revise the school calendar to show November 29 as a no-school day made necessary by the hosting of the district one-act competition at Johnson-Brock.  Seconded by Darren Oestmann.  Roll call vote: All ayes, motion carried.
Moved by Darren Oestmann to approve the agreement with ADT Business Solutions to provide a two-door access control system at a cost of $6,029.37.  Seconded by Keith Bohling.  Roll call vote: All ayes, motion carried.
Moved by Arlen Grotrian to enter into executive session at 8:15 p.m. to protect public interest and prevent the needless injury to the reputation of an individual.  Seconded by David Bohling.  Roll call vote:  All ayes, motion carried.
Moved by Lonnie Neddenriep to return to regular session at 8:44 p.m.  Seconded by Darren Oestmann. Roll call vote:  All ayes, motion carried.
