Bruce L. Gerdes, 61, of Salisbury, Missouri, died Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at University Hospital in Columbia, Mo. Bruce was born September 22, 1953 in Humboldt, Nebraska, the son of Edwin and Eleanor (Oestmann) Gerdes. He married Anna Lea Steer on August 19, 1972 in Lincoln, Neb. and she preceded him in death on September 22, 2005. Bruce was a graduate of Auburn, (Neb.) High School with the Class of 1971. He was a cattleman, farmer, and feedlot manager throughout the the Midwest. Bruce was a member of the Missouri Cattleman’s Association and huge supporter of youth agriculture. Bruce actively supported both 4-H and FFA programs in Missouri and Nebraska. He took great pride in helping others in need in his local and surrounding communities. Bruce is survived by two sons Tony (Amber ) Gerdes of Doniphan, Neb., and Shawn Gerdes of Salisbury, Mo.; two daughters Veronica (John) Haynes of Chillicothe, Mo., and Brandy (Bradd) Bussinger of Bassett, Neb., two brothers Steve Gerdes of Ranger, Texas, and Charlie Gerdes of Auburn; three sisters Loraine Eschbach of Blue Bell, Penn., Marge Essink of Lincoln, Neb. and Melanie Richards of Sioux Falls, S.D.; 15 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Services were held Monday, December 22, 2014 at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury, Mo., with burial in the Mendon (Mo.) Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Bruce Gerdes Memorial Fund.
