Robert L. Kratz, age 80, Stella, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014, at Good Samaritan Society–Auburn. Kratz was born July 13, 1934, at Falls City, son of Bert and Marguret (Chandler) Kratz. He married Dorothy Gibson April 25, 1960, in Falls City and they were divorced in 1987. Kratz was raised in the Falls City area and graduated from Falls City High School in 1952. He was a carpenter for Moss Jones until being drafted into the U.S. Army, where Kratz served from May 28, 1957 to May 12, 1959 and was in the Reserves until 1963. When he returned from the service, Kratz was employed at Frontier Homes, working as plant manager until he was transferred to the Oklahoma location and he lived at Fort Smith, Ark. In 1972, Kratz moved to Humboldt, Neb. and worked as a custodian at the school until 1985. He next moved to Columbia, Mo. and worked in various jobs before moving to Stella in 1993. Kratz was employed with Pony Express Carriers until he retired in 1996. Surviving are two sons, Terry of Hiawatha, Kan. and David L. (Kerri) of Auburn; three daughters, Debbie (Kim) Koerperich of Justin, Texas, Lori (Mark) Adcock of Warrington, Va. and Linda of Stella; a brother, Edwin of Falls City; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Kratz was preceded by his parents and a great-grandchild, Paula Hyde. The funeral service will be Friday, Oct. 24, at 10:30 a.m. at the Dorr & Clark Funeral Home, Falls City, with the Rev. John Henderson officiating. Interment will be in the Steele Cemetery. Military graveside honors will be performed by the Falls City Ceremonial Honor Guard.
