Certified Staff Contract, Admission Prices Approved by Auburn Public Schools Board

The 2010-2011 certified staff contract was approved by the Auburn Public Schools Board of Education Monday, July 19. The base salary increased from $30,056 to $30,650. There were no other changes in the contract.
After a hearing, the board approved the student fee structure for the 2010-2011 school year. The only change was $50 for the front row parking pass, which is a fundraiser for the Student Council. Some fees and costs are subject to fee waivers for students who qualify for free or reduced price lunches. Students need not participate in free or reduced price lunches. No one spoke for or against the student fee policy in a hearing before the regularly scheduled meeting.
Activity admission prices were approved for the 2010-2011 school year. The only change is that adult admission to varsity events was increased from $4 to $5. Student admission prices for varsity events will remain at $4. Admission prices to non-varsity events will remain at $4 for adults and $3 for students. There had been no changes in District 29 admission prices for at least five or six years.
The parental involvement and participation policy was approved following a hearing. No one spoke for or against the policy in a hearing before the regularly scheduled meeting. State law requires an annual hearing for the policy. The policy involved such items as parental access to curriculum materials and access to student records, and requests to attend and monitor instructional activities.
Resignation Policy Revised
A revised policy on resignations was approved. The deadline for resignations was changed from July 1 to June 1. The change gave the board a little more room to work with any vacancies that may result. After June 1, requests for release from a contract will be granted only in emergency situations.
The policy on full-time and part-time enrollment was approved. There were no changes. Board member Bob Hemmingsen asked why the board had to vote every so often if there was no change in the policy. Superintendent Steve Schneider said that the board voted because the policy was reviewed recently. That resulted from public input.
Elementary and secondary handbooks for the 2010-2011 school year were approved.
Schneider said that state budget forms were released. Nothing can be set until after Aug. 20. He said that the levy should not change. It was reported that the preschool was ready to go.
The Buildings, Grounds and Transportation Committee reported that the roof at Calvert Elementary neared completion.
Board President Beth Kernes-Krause thanked Mandi Noel and Amy Kroll on their involvement with activities in conjunction with the Law Enforcement Torch Run Final Leg for the 2010 Special Olympics USA National Games.
“Many kind compliments were received. It was nice to receive them. They were impressed with the window paintings and the general reception,” Kernes-Krause said.
After an executive session to consider 2010-2011 administrative salaries, the board, upon reconvening to open session, gave the district’s administrative team a 1.9 percent salary increase for 2010-2011.
