July 4 Rains Delay Eagles Fireworks Show, Food Until Saturday, July 10

The Auburn Eagles Fourth of July Fireworks Display was postponed until this Saturday due to last Sunday’s rains which were reported to be about three inches in Auburn.
Auburn Eagles Aerie No. 3767 Fireworks Chairman Lee Conner said the show will now took place at 10 p.m. on July 10 at the same location. There will still be a dinner served consisting of a barbecue sandwich, chips and drink beginning at 5 p.m. Also, an ice cream social will begin at that same hour. A free will donation will be accepted to help defray expenses. Also, “glow necklaces” will be available for sale to kids of all ages.
Conner said that although it had basically quit raining by Sunday evening, some sprinkles continued. The grounds south of Auburn Middle/High School were too wet and it was  too late for the fireworks volunteers to get the displays and tubes in place. Conner checked Sunday evening to make sure no one was at the fireworks site anticipating a show that night and said the School District 29 grounds remained waterlogged at that time.
Although it may have worked to delay the fireworks show until Monday evening, weather personnel with whom Conner spoke indicated a strong likelihood that the rains would continue through July 5 too. “After speaking to officials with the Auburn Public Schools, and Auburn Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, the decision was made that postponing the show until this Saturday would likely be the best decision for all involved,” Conner remarked.
“Hopefully, the weather will be more cooperative this week. The show is being planned for the weekend due to the Fireworks Committee members needing time to set up, which usually takes about four hours for a half-dozen or so people. This group includes both Eagles members and other volunteers,” he added.
Conner encourages the public to come out Saturday night and enjoy the fireworks show which represents the culmination of a year of planning and fund raising.
