Douglas Jason King, son of Robert Gale King and Linda Lea (McKnight) King, was born November 21, 1966 in Humboldt, Nebraska. Doug attended Christian schools and Westside High School in Omaha, later earning his GED. He participated in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and attended Glad Tidings Church while growing up in Omaha. Doug served in the Nebraska Army National Guard following his schooling. On November 12, 1994 Doug was married to Caron (Bennett) Dowland in Las Vegas, Nevada. Doug welcomed Caron’s children: Don, Kristy, and Shane into his home. Doug and Caron made their home in Brock, Nebraska. Doug worked at a woodworking shop while he was in Omaha. After moving to Brock he worked outages at Cooper Nuclear Station at Brownville, Nebraska. He also farmed with his grandfather Lester McKnight and later for Fred Gauchat in the Brock area. Doug worked for many years with EnTire Recycling, first in Nebraska City and then in Rock Port, Missouri after the company’s move. He was still a valued employee at EnTire. Doug served on the Brock Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and liked to go camping and play board games with his family. He was a true handyman, and was especially talented at carpentry work. Above all, Doug put his family first in all that he did. On Sunday, August 31, 2014 Doug passed away suddenly in Brock. He had reached the age of 47 years, nine months, and 10 days. His grandparents, Lester and Maxine McKnight, preceded him in death. Doug is survived by his wife Caron of Brock; children Don and wife Candice Dowland of Syracuse; Kristy Wolsmann of Council Bluffs; Shane Dowland of Omaha; grandchildren Devin, Keaton, and Kendra Dowland; Nikolaus, Ethan, and Addison Wolsmann; Christian Dowland; mother and step-father Linda and Albert Zook of Nebraska City; father and step-mother Bob and Fran King of California; brothers Greg King and Mike King, both of Omaha; many other relatives and friends. A funeral service was held Friday, September 5, 2014 at the United Methodist Church in Brock, officiated by Rev. Larry Tolen. Special pre-recorded music was played. Doug’s body was cremated following the service. Services were entrusted to Hemmingsen Funeral Home of Auburn.
