Open Air General Use Facility Under Construction at County Fairgrounds

Construction continues on a new general use open air structure on the Nemaha County Fairgrounds. Gary Behrends, Nemaha County Agricultural Society president, said previously that the goal is to have the building ready for the 2010 Nemaha County Fair on July 25-28.

The facility is being built between the horse barn and beef barn. “We were looking for an area for general use. We always had an area with picnic tables between the two livestock barns. We probably will continue that same use. You always want shade. Summertime is always hot in Nemaha County. You never know when it might rain,” Behrends said.
The facility will be an easy to maintain structure. It will be a usable facility for a social and general use area. Improvements to the City’s utilities in the area gave the fair board an opportunity to put in restrooms.
This general use facility will include a small office, improved concession area, two restrooms and a sizeable general use area. It will make a good facility for a lot of uses, Behrends explained.
The Nemaha County Fair lasts four days, and the new facility will allow other uses of the fairgrounds. “We will be able to utilize the area of the fairgrounds and buildings more than in the past,” Behrends said.
The Agricultural Society wanted to keep up with improvement to the fairgrounds facilities. The society also wanted to encourage youth and families to expand into 4-H activities as their interest allows, he said.
“We want to make a good facility for kids to participate in those projects,” Behrends said.
“It will be an open air facility but will still be good in season. It will be a facility for whatever use the community chooses,” he said.
