1940-2014.

Jack Broady was born November 27, 1940 in Johnson, Nebraska to Wilbur and Madge (Casey) Broady. Jack was baptized in the Johnson Methodist Church. He graduated from Johnson High School in 1958, and attended and graduated from Peru State College in 1962. Jack taught in the Bellevue Public Schools from 1962 to 1964 and in the Ashland Public Schools from 1964 to 1966. In 1963 Jack married Sue Dickerson. Three sons, Scott, Steve and Mike were born to this marriage. In 1966 Jack went to work for Guarantee Mutual Life Company in Omaha, Nebraska as a computer programmer. He worked his way up through the company and became the Vice President of Information Systems. Jack retired from Guarantee Mutual in 1999 after 33 years with the company. Jack married Kathy Banik in 1977 and adopted her two sons, Scott and Jack. He coached Little League baseball for many years while the boys were playing. Jack and Kathy traveled the Midwest and South for 10 years while Scott and Jack were playing for Millard South and the University of Nebraska, Kearney. In 1999 Jack and Kathy built a house on the family farm near Johnson and lived there during retirement until selling it in 2013. Jack enjoyed working in the shop doing woodworking. He also enjoyed working on the lawn. Jack passed away peacefully at his home in Omaha on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at the age of 73 years, nine months, and three days. His parents and brother-in-law Jimmy Risinger preceded him in death. Jack is survived by his wife Kathy of Omaha; sons Scott, Steve, and Mike Caniglia; Scott (Geri) Broady of Omaha; and Jack (Sara) Broady of Omaha; 14 grandchildren; sisters Jeanne (Gary) Harsin; Marilyn (Del) Kienker; brother Brad (Pegi) Broady; uncle Jim Casey; sisters-in-law Sandi Runge, Terri Hardy, Ethel (Jan) Cieluch; brother-in-law Chuck Risinger; other relatives and many friends. A funeral service was held Thursday, September 4, 2014 at the United Methodist Church in Johnson, officiated by Rev. Larry Tolen. Lori Broady was organist and accompanist for congregational hymns. Jack’s body was cremated following the service and private family inurnment of ashes will be at a later date at the Johnson Cemetery. Services were entrusted to Hemmingsen Funeral Home of Auburn.
