The Board of Education of School District #29 of Nemaha County met on May 17, 2010 at the Auburn City Hall for the purpose of conducting the regular board meeting.    Notice of the meeting was duly published in the Auburn Newspapers.
President Beth Kernes Krause called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.  Roll call of members present were: Zaruba, Kennedy, Billesbach and Kernes Krause.  Oestmann and Hemmingsen were absent.
Hemmingsen enters at 7:01 p.m.
Motion by Zaruba and second by Billesbach to approve the consent agenda that includes the minutes of the 4-19-10 regular meeting.  Roll call vote:  Zaruba (yes), Kennedy (yes), Billesbach (yes), Kernes Krause (yes) and Hemmingsen (yes).  Motion carried 5-0.
Visitors included:  Wayne Chase, Amy Kroll, Mandi Noel and the Administrators.
Motion by Kennedy and second by Hemmingsen that the Board approves the monthly claims in all funds as presented.  Roll call vote: Zaruba (yes), Kennedy (yes), Billesbach (yes), Kernes Krause (yes) and Hemmingsen (yes).  Motion carried 5-0.

Motion by Kennedy and second by Zaruba that the Board approve the purchase orders for the 2010-2011 as presented. Roll Call vote:  Zaruba (yes), Kennedy (yes), Billesbach (yes), Kernes Krause (yes) and Hemmingsen (yes).  Motion carried 5-0.
Motion by Zaruba and second by Kennedy that the Board accept the Calvert roof bid from Midwest Custom Coatings in the amount of $31,857.00. Roll Call vote:  Zaruba (yes), Kennedy (yes), Billesbach (yes), Kernes Krause (yes) and Hemmingsen (yes).  Motion carried 5-0.
Motion by Hemmingsen and second by Zaruba that the Board recognize the Auburn Education Association as a bargaining unit.  Roll call vote:  Billesbach (yes), Kernes Krause (yes), Hemmingsen (yes), Zaruba (yes), and Kennedy (yes).  Motion carried 5-0.
Motion by Hemmingsen and second by Billesbach that the Board approve hiring Michael Henrichs as an elementary teacher beginning in the 2010-2011 school year.  Roll call vote:  Billesbach (yes), Kernes Krause (yes), Hemmingsen (yes), Zaruba (yes), and Kennedy (yes).  Motion carried 5-0.
Motion by Hemmingsen and second by Kennedy that the Board approve hiring Kathy Jones as a part time early childhood language resource teacher beginning in the 2010-2011 school year.  Roll call vote:  Billesbach (yes), Kernes Krause (yes), Hemmingsen (yes), Zaruba (yes), and Kennedy (yes).  Motion carried 5-0.
Motion by Hemmingsen and second by Zaruba that the Board approve hiring Kathryn Rogge as an elementary teacher beginning in the 2010-2011 school year.  Roll call vote:  Billesbach (yes), Kernes Krause (yes), Hemmingsen (yes), Zaruba (yes), and Kennedy (yes).  Motion carried 5-0.
Motion by Hemmingsen and second by Billesbach that the Board approve the Interlocal Agreement for the SE Nebraska PowerSchool Cooperative, as presented.  Roll call vote:  Billesbach (yes), Kernes Krause (yes), Hemmingsen (yes), Zaruba (yes), and Kennedy (yes).  Motion carried 5-0.
Motion by Billesbach and second by Kennedy that the board approve the change to the Auburn High School Handbook regarding mid-term graduation, as presented. Roll call vote:  Billesbach (yes), Kernes Krause (yes), Hemmingsen (yes), Zaruba (yes), and Kennedy (yes).  Motion carried 5-0.
Administrative reports were acknowledged.  Thank you notes and upcoming meeting dates reviewed.
President Beth Kernes Krause adjourned the meeting at 7:41 p.m.
The next regular monthly meeting of the Board of Education will be held on June 21, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the Auburn City Hall, 1101 J Street, Auburn, NE. The agenda for the regular school board meeting shall be kept continuously current and shall be readily available for public inspection at the superintendent’s office during normal business hours.  All items on the board agenda are subject to discussion and/or board action.  The board may enter closed session regarding any item on the agenda, which is permitted by Nebraska Statute.
