MaryAlice Karel, Tessa Wellsandt and Laura Ruskamp Lead Johnson-Brock High School Class of 2010


MaryAlice Karel, Tessa Wellsandt and Laura Ruskamp were valedictorians of the Johnson-Brock High School Class of 2010 which graduated Saturday, May 15.
Their speech was adapted from the inspirational statement, Live, Laugh, Love.


Karel said that the Class of 2010 has benefitted from the support of many people, including teachers and family. She said that the Class of 2010 has made its mark in many way through many activities. The class members realize the possibilities of life, Karel said.
“It’s up to us to realize what we can do and take advantage of it. Go out today and remember to live and live happily,” Karel said.
Wellsandt said that laughter is a constant with the Class of 2010 and humorous moments taught the class members a great deal of lessons.
She said that the class members learned the lessons of laughter in and outside of school. Laughter caused constant life lessons that the Class of 2010 can take with them, Wellsandt said.
Ruskamp said that love can be shown and expressed in many ways. They included community, which sustained the class members as students in the Johnson-Brock Public Schools; friends, the class members’ second family at school; teachers and administrators, their love is just as valuable and family, who brought the class members to the moment of graduation.
Karel, Wellsandt, Ruskamp, Sarah Bohling, Jessica Grable, Sydney Henderson and Caleb Mayfield all graduated summa cum laude, with a grade point average (GPA) of 3.9 or above. Graduating magna cum laude, with a GPA of 3.7-3.89, were Caleb Chase, Tyler Hahn, Mason Pelchat and James Shaffer. Ashley Caspers, Anthony Mason and Amanda Teten graduated cum laude, with a GPA of 3.5-3.69.
A senior video was shown. Chase played “Friends” by Michael W. Smith. The ceremony ended with a ribbon cutting ceremony where each graduate took home a piece of ribbon to remember graduation day.
Jonathan Wenzl and Dylan Volker were honor guard. Ushers were Christine Ruskamp, Carrie Sommerhalder, Jacob Volker and Kale Wolken.
