J-B Class D Preliminary State Journalism Runner-Up

Johnson-Brock High School students earned the Class D state runner-up trophy in the NSAA State Journalism preliminary contest.


In the Class D preliminary sweepstakes, Johnson-Brock scored 26 points, second to Hayes Center’s 47 points. Clay Center was third with 15 points.
Top Three Finalists
Seven Eagles students had works which ranked in the Top Three. They were:
James Shaffer: first in editorial writing, second in advertising and third in editorial cartooning;
Tony Moran: second in column writing;
Caleb Mayfield: first in feature writing;
Marie-Louise Hansen: second in info graphic and second in news writing;
Allyson Pelchat: first in sports action photography;
Tessa Wellsandt: first in sports feature writing, yearbook sports feature writing and
Caleb Chase: second sports feature writing.
Five students will continue to the next level of competition when they travel to Lincoln for the Monday, May 10, head-to-head writing competition. The journalists are part of the Johnson-Brock Journalism Class instructed by Karen Wolken.
