Twenty-four students from Johnson-Brock joined more than 2,000 participants at the Future Business Leaders of American (FBLA) State Leadership Conference in Omaha Thursday-Saturday, April 8-10.

Students attending included:  Kayla Alberts, Nick Behrends, Clint Damme, Shannon Dierking, Amanda Dunekacke, Kay Fischer, Adam Gilbert, Jessica Grable, Sydney Henderson, Curtis Karel, MaryAlice Karel, Tricia Lempka, Caleb Mayfield, Tony Moran, Mason Pelchat, Cora Rush, Christine Ruskamp, Laura Ruskamp, James Shaffer, Amanda Teten, Stephanie Teten, Tessa Wellsandt, Taylor Wenzl and Jonathan Wenzl.
The conference started  with a opening session featuring keynote speaker, Patty Hendrickson.  During this session the Johnson-Brock chapter was honored for their numerous activities with the Sweepstakes Award and Gold Seal Award of Merit, an honor bestowed upon the Top 10 percent of the chapters in the state.  Who’s Who recipient, MaryAlice Karel,  All State Quality Award winners, Kayla Alberts and Kay Fischer and 10 year adviser Sylvia Smith were also recognized.
Throughout the conference the students competed in various events including business presentations, public speaking, and various case study analyses, as well as testing in computer skills, website development and many business subjects.  The session Friday night, April 9, brought awards for those that had placed in the top 5 percent of their competitions.  One of the largest tests this year was Business Communications with 656 participants.

Economics: Caleb Mayfield.
Intro to Business Communications: Shannon Dierking and Christine Ruskamp.
Marketing: Kay Fischer and Cora Rush.
Personal Finance: Jessica Grable, Sydney Henderson, James Shaffer and Tony Moran.    
Technology Concepts: Curtis Karel.
Word Processing II: Kay Fischer.
Public Speaking II: Caleb Mayfield and
Future Business Leader: Jessica Grable.
Friday night also brought two awards for MaryAlice Karel when she was named both an FBLA and a Phi Beta Lambda Scholarship Winner.
Saturday morning, April 10, the final awards session honoring those that placed in the Top 8 in each event finally arrived. The Johnson-Brock chapter had another record-breaking year by receiving the following awards:

Hans Christensen 2009 Johnson-Brock graduate and State and National Future Business Leader winner, was on stage April 10, to present this year’s Future Business Leader awards.
At this time 13 students from Johnson-Brock qualify to attend the National Conference in Nashville, Tennessee Tuesday-Sunday, July 13-18.  Those include Kayla Alberts, Shannon Dierking, Amanda Dunekacke, Kay Fischer, Adam Gilbert, Jessica Grable, Curtis Karel, MaryAlice Karel, Caleb Mayfield, Laura Ruskamp, Amanda Teten, Stephanie Teten and Tessa Wellsandt.
