Lady Eagles Fourth in MUDECAS Tournament

The Johnson-Brock Lady Eagles placed fourth in the B Division of the MUDECAS basketball tournament in Beatrice.
After defeating Humboldt/Table Rock-Steinauer 39-20 Monday, Jan. 7; the Lady Eagles lost 32-41 to Johnson County Central Thursday, Jan. 10 and lost 36-50 to Pawnee City in the B Division consolation game. The Johnson-Brock girls took a 4-11 record into a Tuesday, Jan. 15, home game with 2-11 Lewiston.

Sydney LaVigne led the Lady Eagles with 11 points while Sarah Wenzl scored 10. Also scoring for Johnson-Brock were: Nicole Carbajal, 8 points; Tori Rowe, 3 points; and Erin Bohling and Brooklyn Westenburg, 2 points each.
Wenzl led the Lady Eagles with 8 rebounds. Bohling and LaVigne each had 4 rebounds; Amzie Dunekacke and Tori Rowe had 3 rebounds; Westenburg had 2 rebounds and Carbajal 1 rebound.
Bohling and Westenburg each had 1 assist.
Carbajal, Rowe and Wenzl each had 3 steals. LaVigne had 2 steals; while Bohling, Dunekacke and Westenburg had 1 steal apiece.
The Lady Eagles shot 8-of-43 from two-point range; 1-of-3 from three-point range; and made 17 of 25 free throw attempts. Pawnee City shot 20-of-49 from two-point range; made 2-of-4 three-point attempts; and was 4-of-7 from the free throw line. The Lady Eagles were outrebounded 25-to-49 and had 21 turnovers, compared to 17 for Pawnee City.
The Week Ahead
Lewiston went 1-1 in last week’s MUDECAS tournament. It was the first of four consecutive home games for the Lady Eagles.
On Friday, Jan. 18, Friend visits Johnson-Brock. The Friend girls are 10-2, losing only to Sandy Creek and East Butler. Friend’s wins include an overtime victory over Sutton; and wins over Exeter-Milligan, Southern and Falls City Sacred Heart.
Tuesday, Jan. 22, the Lady Eagles play the cross-county Auburn Bulldogs. Auburn was 5-9 entering a Friday, Jan. 18, game with Johnson County Central.
Thursday and Friday, Jan. 24 and 25, the Lady Eagles play Falls City Sacred Heart at home and at Pawnee City before the Pioneer Conference tournament.
