Auburn Laundromat Will Open Soon

Auburn area residents will have a new laundromat in early September.

Auburn Laundromat, a self-serve laundry, will open during the first 10 days of the month at 1400 Courthouse Avenue. Work on preparing the facility has gone on for a few months, said Mike Henderson, owner.

New sewer drain lines were installed. Ventilation was built for clothes dryers, which take a lot of intake air. New water lines were connected with the plumbing. Drain pits were installed, he said.

Area contractors were involved in the work. Pieters Construction of Auburn did concrete work. Dale Borrenpohl of Tecumseh did plumbing and installation of new water lines and gas lines. Wilson Electric of Auburn did all electric work and new line hookups. Steve Abernathy of Auburn finished the epoxy floor. Tony Hector of Auburn did trench and hookup of sewer lines.

Auburn Laundromat will feature four large capacity washing machines and 14 front loading washing machines. All washing machines are high efficiency. There will be 14 front loading dryers. All machines are coin-operated. There will be a bill changer for up to $50 bills and a vending machine for laundry products. A video security system will be installed.

A seasonal wash and fold service will be available during the upcoming outage at Cooper Nuclear Station near Brownville, Henderson said.

“It will help people who rent homes, and people who have apartments and houses for rent. People can come into town and have this service. We hope to bring renters to Auburn,” he said of the laundromat.

Because it will be a high traffic flow area, the remaining space of the building will be available for rent or possible other services, Henderson said.

An Auburn native, he is a graduate of Auburn High School and Nebraska Wesleyan University. Henderson returned to Auburn in the fall of 2000 and opened Carsmart in the fall of 2001.
