July 19 Information Open House for US Hwy. 136 Improvements in Auburn Area
The Nebraska Department of Roads will hold an Information Open House Thursday, July 19, regarding improvements to U.S. Highway 136, in and east of Auburn. The open house will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Auburn Senior Center, 1101 J Street.
These two projects, In Auburn and Auburn East, would be constructed in Nemaha County.
The In Auburn project involves rebuilding 1.38 miles of US Highway 136 from 600 feet west of County Road 638th Avenue on the west side of Auburn by the Sheridan Cemetery through “F” Street. Improvements include pavement removal and replacement as required to the existing width, as well as spot improvements at intersections. Additional improvements include restriping for three lanes, storm sewer and curb inlet replacement, and sidewalk reconstruction, including American with Disabilities Act compliant curb ramps as needed.
Construction is proposed in four “phases” from west to east, with the use of temporary roads to accommodate local traffic. Construction would require detouring US-136 traffic. Local traffic would be detoured through town, while throught highway traffic will be directed onto other state highways. U.S. Highway 75 traffic would also require detouring for a limited period. Maps and more information on detouring will be available at the meeting.
The proposed Auburn East project involves resurfacing 9.73 miles of US-136 from “F” Street in the city of Auburn, through the village of Brownville to the west end of the Missouri River Bridge. Primary improvements include concrete pavement repairs and resurfacing the asphalt to the existing width. The project would be built without detouring US-136 traffic, with appropriate traffic control measures, but would be done concurrent with the In Auburn project detouring.
Construction could start as early as spring of 2014, depending on available funding and design. Work is anticipated to be completed in late fall of 2014.
Personnel from the State Department of Roads will be available to answer questions, receive comments and discuss any aspect of the proposed highway improvement project.
Information regarding the project will be available after the meeting on the NDOR website at www.transportation.nebraska.gov/projects/ by clicking on the “Auburn” link.
